Berlin 6th graders and 8th graders together on a trip to France – is that even possible? Yes, it even works pretty well! Thanks to our Erasmus+ consortium accreditation, seven sixth graders (from the Erasmus+ AG) from Quentin Blake Elementary School and six eighth graders (from the WPF “European Education”) from our cooperation school Dreilinden-Gymnasium were able to travel / fly together to (South) France.
By plane we first went to Bordeaux, where we spent one night together in a youth hostel. This gave the students a chance to get to know each other. The next day we explored Bordeaux in two groups (one group was allowed to chill by the suitcases in a park near the train station, as the walk back to the hostel would have been too far and there is no group luggage storage in the train station). As a surprise, at the end there was a ride on a Ferris wheel on the banks of the Garonne for each group.
In the afternoon we took the train to Capbreton, where our host families were waiting for us at the train station. In the evening we went to our host families and got our first dinner from them – there is often a lot of emphasis on (shared) food in France.
The next day we met together with our French host siblings at the school and drove together with a (rented) bus to Spain – which is not far from Capbreton at all (about an hour’s drive). In San Sebastián, we visited the city center together (and the beautiful bay, la Concha) and then we picnicked in the garden of the Museo de las Ciencias. There, at the same time, a group of Spanish sixth graders were picnicking, and they immediately took us in. The museum itself was set up similarly to the spectrum in the Museum of Technology, i.e. there were many experiments to participate in. The event concluded with a visit to the planetarium and a film projection.
Am Mittwoch durften wir mit unseren Gastgeschwistern in den Unterricht und einige von uns konnten in manchen Fächern schon ganz gut mitarbeiten (in Französisch nicht so, Mathe und Englisch gingen besser…). Am Nachmittag waren wir mit unseren Gastfamilien unterwegs – manche von uns durften sogar einen Surfkurs besuchen, viele andere waren auch am Strand.
Am Donnerstag besichtigten wir Bayonne und Biarritz – und wir bekamen Gelegenheit zum Shoppen :-).
Am Freitag gingen wir zusammen mit unseren französischen Gastgeschwistern auf Erkundungstour durch Capbreton – am Vormittag führte uns eine Stadtrallye durch den Hafen und am Strand entlang (am Strand sahen wir noch die Überreste von Bunkern aus dem 2. Weltkrieg, die Hitler als sogenannten Atlantikwall bauen ließ), am Nachmittag lernten wir das Zentrum von Capbreton kennen (wir durften sogar auf den Glockenturm von Capbreton, was viele Einwohner von Capbreton noch nicht durften). Die Mittagspause verbrachten wir in der Schule und aßen in der Cantine – der Koch hatte für den Besuch aus Deutschland extra Linseneintopf mit Wurst vorbereitet 😐.
Am Samstag ging es sehr früh mit dem Zug zurück nach Bordeaux und von dort mit dem Flugzeug über Frankfurt nach Berlin. Der Abschied von Frankreich und den Gastfamilien fiel einigen von uns nicht leicht…
Es war eine ganz besondere Zeit an einem besonders schönen Ort. So kann Schule auch sein :-).
