We would like to give you a warm welcome!
A child starting school is an exciting time, not only for you as parents and guardians, but also for us and the class!
To make your start easier, we have compiled together the most important information about the school. Here you will find all relevant information about contact persons at the school, after-school care, school social work, special education and details about school life such as our meals, AGs and other activities.
Just click on the link ‘Handbook for starting school’!
There are various formaltilies we should complete the before the first day of school. For this purpose we have created a form booklet, which you will receive at the start of school. Please fill this out as soon as possible and turn it in to the class teacher or the secretary’s office.
We are looking forward to experiencing the school day together with you!
We have prepared a timetable for new pupils: feel free to use it!
For the younger school children we have created a small profile that helps to introduce them to the class and to make their first new school friends! 😉
For parents of our new first graders
The most important thing right at the beginning: Everything will be fine! Your child will settle in well at our school, just as so many children have settled in well before.
We are often asked if we have any tips on how to get off to a good start at school. We have: Don’t take things away from your child that they can actually do themselves. Because those who have confidence in themselves go through life more independently – and also have an easier time arriving at school.
Below you will find some interesting facts:

Drop off and pick up
Please bring your child only as far as the entrance of the school (and not to the classroom) – he/she will be met there by the educator or the class teacher and brought there again after school ends. In the second half of the year, your child will then go in and come out of the school building independently – and be mighty proud at both! 🙂
Please note the following when picking up:
Please follow these steps regarding your child’s pick-up:
Class 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 (child without after-school care contract):
Please wait for your child outside the school children’s entrance. Whether school ends at 1:30pm, 2:30pm or 4pm. Your child will be taken to the school children’s entrance. You can welcome it there.
Class 1.1., 1.2 and 1.3 (child with after-school care contract):
For class 1.1 and 1.2: You can pick up your child on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. and on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:30 p.m. at any time in the after-school care rooms.
Your child goes to class 1.3? Then you can pick it up anytime from 1:30pm in the after-school-care.
Breakfast & Lunch
Breakfast:
All children eat breakfast in their classes. Important: Breakfast at school does not replace breakfast at home. And: a breakfast box is not a candy box! Please provide your child with a healthy, wholesome breakfast, which includes enough fiber and vitamins (e.g. whole grain bread and fruit).
Lunch:
The children of the bilingual classes (class 1.1 and 1.2) go to lunch after the second break at 12pm. The children of class 1.3 (with after-school contract) go to lunch at 1:30pm due to a different time structure.
All children in grades 1.1 and 1.2 and all children with after-school contracts in grade 1.3 must be registered for lunch with our caterer, LUNA. To register for this, go to www.luna.de. You can find more details on the page ‘School lunch‘.
After School Clubs (AGs)
Because we want your child to get on well at school, we do not yet offer AGs for first classes in the first half of the year. Therefore, you are welcome to pick up your child on Wednesdays and Fridays as early as 2:30pm (or 1:30pm if your child attends Class 1.3). Alternatively, your child will be cared for in our after-school care rooms (or sometimes outside – depending on the weather).
If you have any further questions, please contact the head of the after-school program or the head of the eucational support.
Registration & deregistration after school care
You want to register your child for after-school care?
If so, please first apply for an after-school care voucher at the youth welfare office in your district of residence. Find out everything you need to know on the service portal of the city of Berlin: Service Portal Berlin
With the authorisation issued by the Youth Welfare Office (Jugendamt), you will then come to the management team of the educational support of our school. We then set up an after-school care contract based on the approval.
You want to deregister your child?
If so, please draft a brief letter of resignation and submit it to the educational support as well. Please indicate in the letter when you wish to terminate the contract.
Parenting & Communication
Our work with parents is very diverse and ranges from sending emails to actively involving parents in our pedagogical work. If you are not satisfied with the work of your child’s educator(s), please contact the person in question and – if there is no improvement – only then contact the educational support management. Also consider to keep the Complaints Policy in mind.
Please refrain from contact via WhatsApp regarding communication with your child’s educator. WhatsApp is NOT an official communication channel of the tjfbg. Therefore our request: If you wish to communicate in writing with your child’s educator, please do so exclusively by email using the official email address.
Vacation
Except for a few closing days, we are open all year round – even during vacations. During the vacations we offer a wide variety of excursions and activities. These will be published promptly before the respective vacations. You can find out whether your child is entitled to vacation care on the approval certificate for the after-school care contract issued by the Youth Welfare Office in your district.
Name badges
In the school children’s entrance there are some whiteboards that we use to assign classes to specific locations on our school grounds. So that we know where each child is on the school grounds, each child has his or her own name tag. Please remind your child every now and then to plug in properly. It then knows what to do. Sometimes you can also find the class sign at a certain offer – then you know: the whole class of your child is e.g. in the green after-school room, on school yard B/2 etc.
Sick note
If your child is sick in the morning during the school day, it is important that you inform the class teacher* and the secretary’s office by email. Please do not forget to indicate in the email in which class your child goes – this helps the secretary a lot to assign the child. You do not need to let the educational support know.
During the vacation care:
Please report your child sick to the educational support if he/she is registered for vacation care and is sick during this period.
